Alderhoard is a game made by one person. This page says plainly what it is, what it is not, and what it borrows from.

It is a work in progress, and it says so

Alderhoard ships almost every day. Levels arrive, get renamed, get rebalanced, and occasionally get retired. Anything written on this site describes the game as it stood when the page was written, and the game may well have moved since. Where a page is generated from the game itself, it says so.

What it costs

Nothing. There is no payment on this site, no account, no email capture and no trial that expires. There is a Ko-fi link for anyone who wants to support the work, and that is the whole of the commercial arrangement. Any statement on this site about what will stay free is on the terms page, and those four commitments are meant.

Influences, and who owns what

Alderhoard is openly built out of affection for arcade games of the late 1970s and 1980s, and it does not pretend otherwise. Stonebreaker descends from the brick-breaking game Atari published in 1976. 3D Waka descends from the dot-eating maze games that followed in 1980 and after, and its camera is a deliberate nod to the raised-perspective maze cabinets of the late 1980s.

Every one of those names belongs to its owner, and none of them are involved here. Alderhoard is not affiliated with, endorsed by, licensed by or connected to Atari, Bandai Namco, or any other publisher whose work it admires. Where such a name appears on this site, it appears to describe an influence, which is all it is. No sprite, sound, level layout or line of code has been taken from any of them. Everything in Alderhoard was drawn, written and built for Alderhoard.

Names that are ours

Alderhoard, Stonebreaker, 3D Waka, Contraption, Moonwalk, Scuttle, Run of Five and the rest of the cabinet names, along with the artwork and the writing, are the work of Scott Covert and 5 Keys Lab.

Outside links

Links to other sites are there because they were useful. They are not endorsements, and what happens on the far side of one is not under my control.

Accuracy

The dev log, the level pages and the press kit are written to be accurate, and the level listings are generated from the game's own code rather than typed by hand so that they cannot quietly drift out of date. If you find something on this site that is wrong, tell me at [email protected] and it will be fixed.

Photosensitivity

A small number of screens in Alderhoard use rapid colour change, flashing and moving patterns. The Mushroom Wood in 3D Waka and several Stonebreaker walls are the obvious ones. A very small proportion of people can have seizures triggered by flashing lights or patterns. If that applies to you or to anyone in your family, take advice from a doctor before playing, and stop at once if you feel dizzy, disoriented or unwell.
